Lance enjoyed a stellar riding career with 2,479 wins, highlighted by his 1989 Japan Cup triumph aboard Horlicks. Andrew Scott has trained over 1,000 winners and previously worked under prominent trainers before forming the partnership in 2006.

Stephen Gray Racing — Copper Belt Lodge, Palmerston North

Stephen Gray Racing operates from Copper Belt Lodge in Awahuri, near Palmerston North. Stephen, in partnership with his father Kevin, brings 24 years of international success from Singapore, where he developed a reputation for patience with stayers and late-maturing types. The family returned to New Zealand in 2024 to base operations at the lodge they acquired in 2006.

Known for strategic development of thoroughbreds suited to longer trips, Stephen Gray Racing informed key decisions such as stepping up First Gear in distance. Through B.A.X, she sources high-quality thoroughbreds, manages syndication teams, and races her own string with a focus on attitude, pedigree, and athletic potential.
